Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized program designed to improve reading comprehension. At the beginning of each semester students take the STAR test to determine their reading level and then based on their star reading level they are given a personal reading goal. Students check out books and then after reading them they take an AR quiz on the books. Students earn points to meet their individual goal. Students must maintain 80% correct. We have two AR celebrations: one in the fall and one in the spring as a reward for students who have met their goal and maintained a score of at least 80% correct.
The AR committee that makes decisions about the Accelerated Reader Program is made up a group of teachers and other staff members here at Indian Valley. We meet monthly to discuss our AR program and our AR celebrations.
